Members of Wartburg College’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) recently attended the Iowa Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) fall conference, OctoPRfest.
Keziah Ambundo, Makenna Kammerer and Lauren Simpson represented Wartburg at the conference in Johnston.
“OctoPRfest was an amazing opportunity to interact and network with individuals in the industry,” said Ambundo, a senior from Hopkinton.
The students networked with business professionals, learned about graduate school opportunities and gained insight from working professionals.
They also learned how to handle a crisis as a PR professional from Molly McPherson, an APR-certified crisis management and public relations practitioner. The students heard from Monique Farmer, founder and president of Avant Solutions, on the power of storytelling.
While the speakers provided Ambundo, Kammerer and Simpson with opportunities to expand their public relations knowledge, speaking one-on-one with panel members gave them insight into careers in the corporate, nonprofit and agency sectors of public relations. “I feel more empowered after listening to keynote presentations. My COM 455 course really helped me understand the subjects at hand, making participation easier. It was a nice feeling to be very prepared to discuss the topics,” said Ambundo.
