Mariah Birgen is professor of mathematics at Wartburg College. Teaching responsibilities span both lower and upper division mathematics, as well as interdisciplinary courses in mathematics, science, and honors. In addition to classroom instruction, Dr. Birgen is active in general education curricular design, mathematics education research, and service to the regional and national mathematics community, including roles for the Mathematical Association of America and honors councils. Previous leadership experience includes directing the Wartburg Scholars Program, serving on faculty committees, organizing conferences, and mentoring students in research and science outreach.

History of mathematics and physics, with a focus on travel-based experiential learning​
Pedagogy and innovation in mathematics education, including inquiry-based learning and assessment design​
