Wartburg College will welcome alumni, parents and friends of the college to campus Oct. 9-12 for Homecoming & Family Weekend 2025.

This year’s theme is Burg Bound — both a call to return to campus and a reflection of the long-lasting ties in the Wartburg community.

“We can’t wait to see Knights and their families at classic traditions like the Renaissance Faire and Oktoberfest,” said Ellen Engh, director of alumni and parent engagement.

Major events planned this weekend include:

  • Kastle Kapers: Friday, Oct. 10, 8:30 p.m., Neumann Auditorium. This variety show of student talent will feature music, comedy and more.
  • Homecoming Parade: Saturday, Oct. 11, 10 a.m. The route heads down Fifth Street Northwest, turns onto First Avenue Northwest and turns again down 12th Street Northwest.
  • Renaissance Faire: Saturday, Oct. 11, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Student groups, community organizations and food trucks will offer goods for sale.
  • Football Game: Saturday, Oct. 11, 1:30 p.m. The Knights take on the University of Dubuque Spartans; Athletic Hall of Fame nominees will be recognized at 1:10 p.m.
  • Oktoberfest: Saturday, Oct. 11, 4 to 6:30 p.m. Enjoy beer, brats and German games on the campus mall.
  • Homecoming Luncheon: Sunday, Oct. 12, 11:45 a.m. Recipients of Wartburg’s Alumni Citation — Erika Breddin , Erich Heneke and Stacene Maroushek — will be honored.

A new beer from Bremer Brewing Co., Wartburg Knights Black Armor Golden Ale, will be available throughout the weekend. Both it and Wartburg Knights Orange Wheat American Ale will be for sale in four-packs at the Renaissance Faire and will be on tap at Oktoberfest. Ten percent of all sales come back to support the college.

In addition, a special Knights Delight Cool Cookie, filled with German-chocolate-inspired frozen yogurt from Country View Dairy in Hawkeye, will be for sale at Wartburg dining locations on Saturday while supplies last.

“We’re already seeing great turnout at our events,” said Alina Ahamed, a fourth-year student and director of Homecoming Committee. “There’s a lot of excitement and energy on campus for Homecoming, and we can’t wait to add alumni, parents and friends to the mix this weekend.”
