Wartburg education professor wins statewide advocacy award

Brandy Smith, an assistant professor of education at Wartburg College, recently received the Iowa Children’s Champion Award from the Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children.

The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to improving the quality of care and education of young children statewide.

Smith has served in leadership roles with the Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children for 16 years, including time as the board secretary and more recently as board president. During that time, she has helped restructure the organization to make it a more inclusive and welcoming space.

“Receiving this award is a true honor, as it helps me model for my Wartburg education students the critical importance of being an advocate and leader in our state,” Smith said.
