With heavy hearts, we announce Richard H. James, age 87 of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. He was a loving husband, father, lawyer and a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jana Sue James. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, survived by his three children: Joy James, Dawn Gartin, and Lance James, along with their spouses and his four grandchildren Nicholas James, Hannah James, Danielle James, and Ava James. Richard will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched with his kindness and wisdom.
After graduating from Manchester High School in Iowa, Richard served three years in the U. S. Navy as an aerial photographer. He went on to obtain a degree at Wartburg College in Iowa where he met his wife. Richard completed his law degree in 1977 practicing law in Decatur and Lawrenceville for 40+ years. Richard enjoyed being a part of the Thursday morning Bible Study and a member of the First United Methodist Church Wesley Sunday School class. He loved working in his yard, was a voracious reader, spending time with his family and helping see impossible projects come to life for his loved ones. With his Stetson hat perched atop his head, his piercing blue eyes, and a mischievous smile that never seemed to fade, Richard was resolute in his commitment to aiding those in need and viewed every obstacle as an opportunity to make a difference.
