Michael James Nedoba, 53, of Holmen, Wisconsin passed away early Tuesday morning at 4:19, January 23rd, 2024 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI.
Mike was born in 1970, the youngest son to Curt and Carol (nee Fehr) Nedoba in Waterloo, Iowa. He attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and then the University of Iowa where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history. Mike was always a devoted Iowa Hawkeyes fan. In 1993, after the Velvet Revolution in what was Czechoslovakia, Mike traveled to the former Warsaw Pact country to teach English as a Second Language. While there he enjoyed seeing and experiencing many different parts of Europe and made many lifelong friendships.
Mike married Petra Kalmusova in 1998, at the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary in Frydek-Mistek, Czech Republic, with his entire family attending. The Czechs and Americans greatly enjoyed the cultural exchange experience. They moved to Prague where Mike worked teaching English at CVUT University while Petra studied medicine. Mike had a keen interest in the ‘City of a Thousand Spires’ and soon knew Prague better than the natives.
Later they moved to the United States, lived in Detroit, Michigan and then settled in Wisconsin, first Sheboygan and then west across the state to Holmen. And it was during all this time that they had four wonderful children, which were Mike’s pride and joy. Mike loved football and many other sports as well as hiking and exploring the great outdoors. He loved to cook and could prepare a mouthwatering steak dinner. Mike was a historian at heart and a voracious reader. He loved to travel and meet new people and see new places. Mike was always concerned for his fellow man and was a kind human being.
Mike is survived by Petra and their four children, Samuel, Ema, Olivia and Simon; his parents Curt and Carol; and his two brothers, Brian and Tim Nedoba.
All obituary information has been taken from the funeral home, newspaper or other online resource.
