Dr. Stacene Maroushek ’86 — Alumni Citation 2025

Dr. Stacene Maroushek ’86
Rogers, Minnesota

Dr. Stacene Maroushek has spent her career creating better medical outcomes for her local community and for so many others across the globe.

“Stacene has spent the most vital years of her vocation providing for underserved children and families in the Minneapolis area and abroad, including immigrants, refugees, other foreign-born patients, and those without sufficient resources for daily life,” wrote Joy Newcom, one of Maroushek’s nominators.

Maroushek serves as a general pediatrician and pediatric infectious disease specialist for Hennepin Healthcare. In this role, she provides expert consultation and training to colleagues both within the organization and around the world about vaccinations. She also helps with a mobile vaccination program that sends a van into neighborhoods to boost kids behinds on their shots.

“My mom had many job opportunities presented to her where she could have made a lot of money,” wrote Katie Brown, Maroushek’s daughter and one of her nominators. “She chose to stay at one of the only hospitals in the Upper Midwest that caters to every patient, regardless of immigration, insurance, or financial status.”

Maroushek has traveled numerous times to Jamaica, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Poland to train medical professionals in techniques to reduce infant and maternal mortality. These trips require continual education, both around new infectious diseases and around cultural differences that may act as barriers to care for her patients.

“Her leadership saves lives,” wrote Newcom. “Her vocation brings her joy. Others see and experience divine love through the work of her hands.”

Maroushek became a master gardener volunteer in 2022, putting in more than double the amount of hours necessary to maintain her credentials. She also mentors new volunteers, served as a stop on a learning garden tour, and participates in Gardens for Good, sending her extra produce to food pantries in the area.

“Stacene has been a welcome individual to our volunteer team,” wrote Terry Straub, one of her nominators. “She is courageous in all she does.”

For her devotion to providing care to all who need it and for her service to those around her, the Wartburg College Alumni Board is pleased to present Dr. Stacene Maroushek with an Alumni Citation.
