Jennifer Dickey’s dedication to Wartburg’s mission — challenging and nurturing students for lives of leadership and service — is evident in her professional life. This commitment was recently recognized with Wartburg’s prestigious, student-nominated John O. Chellevold Student Award for Excellence in Teaching and Professional Service in 2024.
Professor Dickey’s scholarly work uniquely bridges educational theory and practice. Her research is focused on creating direct benefits for neurodivergent students and educators. As a published author with Brookes Publishing Co., she co-authored the practical, evidence-based laminated guide “Supporting Students’ Executive Function Skills in the Trauma Sensitive Classroom: Focusing in on Working Memory” (2024), alongside trauma-informed expert Jen Alexander.
Driven by her work in this area, she founded Lotus Cognitive Solutions Group in 2020, where she serves as an executive function coach. Through this venture, she applies evidence-based strategies to assist families with essential cognitive skills like working memory, time management, and emotional regulation.
A passionate advocate for future educators, Professor Dickey involves her students in high-impact community service and research. Students partner with local school districts to provide executive function skill development sessions, and their work has been presented at professional events, including the Iowa Reading Association Conference (2023 and 2024) on topics such as “Elevate Executive Function Skills to Boost Reading Comprehension.” She also serves as the faculty adviser for the Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) academic honors organization, facilitating professional development and mentorship.
Professor Dickey also contributes to the broader educational landscape, serving on the Iowa Department of Education’s Special Education Advisory Panel and as a literacy liaison and peer-reviewer for reading endorsement programs.
