More about Sarah Bouska

Sarah J. Bouska began as the Music Tours, Camps, and Promotions Manager at Wartburg College in June 2021. Previously, she completed 19 years at Mason City High School serving as the Associate Choral Conductor where she was directing the Treble Clef Chorus, Varsity Show Choir, two sections of Mixed Chorus and choreographed small and large ensembles for the Mason City variety show Follies. She also served as an advisor for the Mason City Chapter of Best Buddies. In November of 2016, Sarah was the director of the 7th and 8th Grade Treble Clef Opus Honor Choir, a moment that she would tell you changed her life. A cum laude graduate of Wartburg College, she earned a B.M.E. in music education and a Master of Education degree from Morningside College. Bouska was Assistant Director for Dr. Paul Torkelson, conducting the Wartburg Choir on tour and has worked at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. She has received the Governor’s Scholar Teacher Award in 2021, 2019, 2016 and 2014, is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and served two terms as the North Central District Chair of the Iowa Choral Directors Association. Sarah has provided music at and served on numerous committees for Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, IA. She enjoys being an active clinician, guest director and adjudicator. Sarah found a love for music at an early age thanks to her parents starting her out on piano and thanks them for not letting her quit. She attributes her love for people and respect to customer service to her dad, Gary, who was her first teacher at the family jewelry store, Bruce Jewelers in Princeton, Illinois. While Sarah has been under the direction of numerous music educators, she knows that she continues to grow as a music educator because of those that have come before her and those she is surrounded by that continue to inspire her. Bouska loves being extremely well organized, color coding everything, and networking. Sarah had the distinct honor of serving ICDA not once but twice as the Iowa Choral Directors Association Summer Symposium Chair in 2017 and 2018. She now serves the ICDA Executive Board as the Iowa Symposium Liaison, a new position that was created in 2018. Sarah is also the current President-Elect for Iowa Music Educators Association. Sarah has also facilitated choral festivals at the renowned Carnegie Hall in NYC. Her love of bringing people together continues to be her driving force to serve organizations. Sarah and her husband Duane (math educator) are the proud parents of Nevaeh (15), Korbin (12), Micah Jane (9) and Emerson (7).
