Tomson Family Distinguished Chair in Social Work
The O. Jay and Patricia Tomson Professorship was established in 1984 through the generosity of O. Jay and Patricia Tomson and elevated to a distinguished chair in 2012
Dr. Tamara Faux joined the Wartburg Social Work faculty in 2004 and is currently serving as Department Chair and Tomson Family Distinguished Chair in Social Work. In addition to her prior experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate-level social work courses, she also worked as a child protection and child welfare social worker for public agencies. Faux also has served as a Guardian Ad Litem for a juvenile court. Her areas of interest include children, youth and family social work, child abuse prevention, service learning, and technology in education. Her current research and presentations have been related to foster care and program evaluations for area agencies. She advises the campus Habitat for Humanity Chapter, the Social Work Club and frequently advises student research projects.
O. Jay and Patricia Tomson have supported many Wartburg initiatives. He is a former member of the Board of Regents, chairs the board of First Citizens National Bank of Mason City, and is past president of the Iowa Independent Bankers Association and the Independent Community Bankers of America. Patricia Tomson is a retired family therapist, former executive director of Parents United in Mason City, and former member of Wartburg’s National Social Work Advisory Board. Their daughter, Sara Tomson-Hooper ’89, is a Wartburg social work graduate and was recognized with a 2010 Alumni Citation.
