Gregory Puls peacefully departed from this world March 28, 2025, with family at his side after a battle of cancer, Hydrocephalus (NPH), and Parkinsonism.
Gregory Wayne Puls was born January 26,1949 in Grinnell, IA to Wayne and Wilma (Jean) Puls. He has one brother, Randy Puls, who resides in Ft Dodge, IA. Greg spent most of his life in Grinnell, IA. His parents moved to Colorado Springs, CO for a short time. During that time, he delivered the Newspaper to the Airforce Academy. He and his family moved back to Grinnell after 1 year in Colorado Springs. Greg graduated from Grinnell High School and received his BS in Business and Economics from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA. Greg lettered playing football for Waldorf College and Wartburg College.
He served 6 years for the Iowa Army National Guard. While serving, Greg began working in retail with Kmart and Younkers. He met and married the love of his life Jean in 1982 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. He and his wife opened 6 Subway franchise Stores in Sioux Falls, SD in 1990. He was very proud to introduce the Subway Franchise to the state of SD by opening the 2nd Subway Restaurant in Sioux Falls.
Greg was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Worked for JD Association and had pride bringing his friend, Larry Hagman, to Sioux Falls to help with a fundraiser for the Juvenal Diabetes Association. Some of his favorite memories were made at his beach home in Indian Shores, FL, Greg was a sport enthusiast. He cherished his enjoyment watching his grandchildren play hockey, baseball, soccer, basketball, track and lacrosse games. Saturday was his day for watching college football on TV when not attending IA Hawkeye Football games, Nebraska football games or his grandchildren’s games. Greg enjoyed listening to Garth Brooks and The Eagles. He enjoyed playing golf and playing cards with family and friends.
He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather and loved his family immensely. He enjoyed his good friends and neighbor’s visits. He is survived by his wife, Jean Puls, of Sioux Falls, SD: two sons, Matt Puls and Dan (Nicole) Gibson, two grandsons, Daylen and Tate Gibson and granddaughter Hartley Puls. Which all reside in Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by a brother Randy (Laurel) of Ft Dodge, IA, a niece Megan Hones (Josh) of Cedar Falls, IA and a nephew Eric Puls of Cedar Rapids, IA. He also has many other relatives living throughout the states, whom he enjoyed throughout many memories of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and a cousin, Tom Lynch.
