  • Scholarship: Junior/senior students that participate in the boot camp or film festival and submit an award submission will receive a $1,500 scholarship to Wartburg.

WARTBURG FILM FESTIVAL
A 24-hour High School Film Competition
May 3, 5 p.m., -May 4, 9 p.m., 2019

Movie magic usually starts with filmmakers gathering a group of friends. This May at Wartburg College, we are inviting you and your high school friends to join us for a 24-hour filmmaking experience. Journalism & Communication Department faculty and students want to be your hosts as you accept the challenge of making a short film Friday evening into Saturday and sharing it with an audience Saturday evening. Please join us and make a film with your friends!

Submission Process:

  • Take the challenge of making a short film in 24 hours with your team.
  • Learn filmmaking insights from guest judges and faculty mentors.
  • Share a weekend of filmmaking competition with other area high school student filmmakers.
  • Participants must bring and use their own equipment.

An adult sponsor/teacher must attend with video teams.

  • Cost: $50 per team (5-10 people), includes continental breakfast and a t-shirt for each member

YOUR VOICE
A Multi-Media Journalism Boot Camp
Thursday, June 13, 2019, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Emerging journalists will be encouraged to develop skills in an ever-changing industry of storytelling through this real-world experience at the boot camp.

Camp Features:

  • Learn the basic principles of effective journalism and news coverage.
  • Obtain the basic skills to improve or begin writing, news programming, or publication design, which will be relevant to audiences and attractive to watch and read. 
  • Use editing equipment and software with a view to understanding and experiencing the role of the video and photo-journalist.
  • Learn from experienced faculty mentors, college students, and area high school students.

Individual students (Grades 9-12) or school groups may participate without an advisor. Groups will be assigned for the boot camp at arrival.

  • Cost: $25 per person, includes lunch and a t-shirt
