Wartburg offered numerous opportunities to work with professors

NAME: Jason Niccolls
CLASS YEAR: 2020
HOMETOWN: Fairfax, Iowa
MAJOR: Actuarial science

INVOLVEMENT ON CAMPUS: I’ve been involved in many different honor societies but mainly I’ve been involved in the Symphonic Band and the Trumpet Choir.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE WARTBURG: I chose Wartburg because I really liked the campus when I came to visit. I felt like it was a great community to be around, and I could tell that the people working in admissions saw me as more than just a prospective student. They saw me as a person as a whole.

HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON YOUR MAJOR: I am pretty good at math, and I wanted a way to apply it to more of a business sense and get a chance to work with computer science. I saw it as a great blend for me to pursue my interests and I just stuck with it.

HOW HAS WARTBURG SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS IN YOUR FIELD: Wartburg has given me a lot of opportunities to work with professors, which is something that you don’t really get to do at larger universities. You can really get a deeper understanding of the material that you are learning. You get to do a lot of hands-on work, especially with computer science, that really sets you up for success once you get to the field.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: After graduation, I am going to be a business analyst at Post Consumer Brands in Lakeville, Minnesota.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WARTBURG MEMORY: I really enjoy a lot of the time outside of the classroom, interacting with a lot of my friends and just getting to hang out. May Term is my favorite time, going out and hammocking by the lacrosse fields and just relaxing.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR CURRENT STUDENTS: Find a good balance between work and fun. You only get to be here for a really short time, and you enjoy the things more when you’re not pressuring yourself to work all the time.

WHY IS WARTBURG WORTH IT: Getting to work closely with professors when I need help or when I was struggling with something, just having their availability all the time has been amazing.
