Still reaching for the orange

WHAT DID YOU NEVER IMAGINE YOU WOULD DO BEFORE COMING TO WARTBURG: I never imagined being able to travel to two countries and earn college credit while doing it. Looking back, I had a variety of experiences that would help form what I want for my own kids as they grow up.

HOW DID YOUR WARTBURG EXPERIENCE PREPARE YOU FOR LIFE AFTER COLLEGE: I remember having a class on proper dinner etiquette when out for an interview lunch. I still have my binder of resume builder tips and formats. The career fairs were beneficial, too, and I had job offers to select from before I graduated.

HOW ARE YOU LIVING OUT THE WARTBURG MISSION: I see the value and importance of living a life of service. I am involved with my church and work community. Being good citizens to those around us is important, as is being tolerant of many view points, and Wartburg laid part of the foundation for that. It took me a few years to figure out how to balance it all, but once I did, I now hope I can better instill those values in my own children as they grow up and be that example for them.

WHY WAS WARTBURG WORTH IT: I thoroughly enjoyed the class size, the overall size of my graduating class, the instructors, the traditions, and the topics I learned. I love that my professors remember me by name, even after graduating so many years ago.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR CURRENT STUDENTS: Do a variety of activities and classes. Don’t get tunnel vision on only getting a degree completed. Consider getting a minor in another area. I have a math and computer science degree, but also a minor in Spanish and was only a couple classes away from a religion minor.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE: When it comes time to pick out the color of a coffee mug, water bottle, or playing piece for a board game, I always reach for the orange one. Wartburg will always be visible somewhere, even in the small choices.
