Giving back by connecting with current students

NAME: Bailey Wilson Jenson
CLASS YEAR: 2015
MAJOR: Mathematics, economics, Spanish
CURRENT EMPLOYMENT: Actuarial senior specialist, Nationwide Insurance Company

WHY WARTBURG: I heard of Wartburg through Coach Frazell (volleyball coach) and decided to visit the campus. After visiting with the volleyball coaches and players, walking around campus, and discussing the math curriculum with Dr. Birgen, I knew Wartburg was going to be my home for the next four years.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO HOST A STUDENT FOR ORANGE CONNECTION: When I was in college, I always wanted to participate in Orange Connection, but there weren’t any actuarial options. I want to make sure students have the opportunity to see what actuaries do while meeting other alumni.

WHY WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME: Being a host for Orange Connection is such a fantastic way to give back to the college and to current students without a financial obligation – that means anyone can do it!

HOW ARE YOU LIVING OUT THE WARTBURG MISSION: I consider myself a lifetime learner who tries to be a servant leader in everything I do. I attribute that to attending a school that values leadership and service.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR CURRENT STUDENTS: Enjoy your time in college! And if you can, travel for a May Term – I have never regretted it.

WHY WAS YOUR WARTBURG EXPERIENCE WORTH IT: I loved going to a small school that allowed me to create meaningful relationships with friends and professors while being involved in numerous campus activities. Wartburg allowed me to succeed in the classroom and develop a deeper sense of my faith, all while being a four-year varsity starter for the volleyball team. I was able to study abroad for two amazing May terms (Costa Rica and Germany), which helped shape my liberal arts education. Wartburg was worth it in every aspect … I even met my husband (Alex Jenson ’15) at Wartburg!
