Two Wartburg students shared their research about remote learning at the 2022 Hawaii International Conference on Education.

Makayla Schluter and Sidney Baumgartner, 2022 graduates who majored in elementary education, presented “K-5 Educator Perceptions of Remote Learning: Students’ Emotional Health and Academics.” Bree Gryp, Becca Montgomery, and Elizabeth Ricke, also 2022 graduates in elementary education, contributed to the research but did not present at the conference.

“Not only had we experienced remote learning as college students, but we were curious about the effects of remote learning on the students we would be working with in field experience and in our future careers,” said Schluter.

The group surveyed teachers and found that both students and educators struggled to adapt to remote learning without adequate planning and resources.

“Completing the research with my peers and education professors was an incredible experience,” said Schluter. “Being published as an undergraduate set me up for success as a future educator. Because of this experience, I can be a part of research in my future career and be a more competent leader in seeking positive change for my students.”
