Wartburg College students and recent graduates received more than 30 individual awards at the annual Iowa College Media Association ceremony held virtually on Thursday, Feb. 17.

DJs for KWAR, the student-run radio station, swept the Best Air Personality category, with Della Whittaker taking first, Madison Freeland earning second and Leticia Silva bringing home third.

Individual awards were given to the following students and recent graduates.

Ryan Reebenacker earned first place for Best Multimedia Storytelling Package and third place in Best Sports Feature Reporting in the news media division. He also earned an honorable mention in the Best Media Website category.

Nathan Stephany earned second place for Best Long Form Video Documentary for his work on the capstone documentary “My People’s Bones” and third place for Best Opinion Writing in the news media division.

Alexa Ganzeveld earned second place for Best Print Design in the news media division. She also earned third place for Best Long Form Video Documentary for her work on the capstone documentary “Changing Hearts and Minds – Ruby Sutton.”

Annika Wall earned second place for Best Print Design in the news media division.

Katie Hirv earned a second- and third-place finish for Best Print Design in the news media division. She also earned second place for Best Use of Social Media for her work on Knight Wire and an honorable mention in the Best Media Website category.

Silvia Oakland earned second place for Best Print Design in the news media division. She also earned second place for Best Long Form Video Documentary for her work on the capstone documentary “My People’s Bones.”

Olivia Foster earned third place for Best Print Design and an honorable mention for Best Magazine or Special Section Cover in the news media division.

Jenna White earned third place for Best Print Design in the news media division and Public Affairs and Sports Reporting in the television division.

Freeland earned first place for Best Show and third place for Best Promo in the radio division. She also earned an honorable mention for Best Magazine or Special Section Cover in the news media division and third place in Best Video Newscast in the television division.

Hope Mather earned an honorable mention for Best Magazine or Special Section Cover in the news media division.

Gabby McCoy earned second place for Best Use of Social Media for her work on Knight Wire and an honorable mention in the Best Media Website category.

Whittaker received an honorable mention for Best Use of Social Media and Best Promo for her work on KWAR.

Lauren Ulveling earned second place for Best Promo in the radio division.

James Mossman received an honorable mention for Best PSA in the radio division.

Anjela Waterman earned second place for Best News Programming in the radio division.

Silva earned third place for Best Show in the radio division.

Joshua Hamlyn earned first place for Best Sports Program in the radio division. He also earned second and third place for Best Video Sportscasting in the television division.

Henry Hahn earned an honorable mention for Long-form Audio Package in the radio division. Molly Coy earned third place in Best Video Newscast in the television division.

Rachel Green earned second place for Best Video Promo or PSA and third place in Best Video Newscast in the television division.

Henry Powers earned second place in Best Video Sportscasting in the television division.

Peyton Meisner earned first place for Best Short Documentary for his work on the capstone documentary “Letters from a Young State” and third place in Best Video Sportscasting in the television division.

Juliana Pelaez earned first place for Best Short Documentary for her work on the capstone documentary “Letters from a Young State.”

Chris Lucas earned first place for Best Short Documentary for his work on the capstone documentary “Letters from a Young State.”

Liam Easley earned first place for Best Short Documentary for his work on the capstone documentary “Letters from a Young State.”

Ethan Pfaltzgraff earned third place for Best Long Form Video Documentary for his work on the capstone documentary “Changing Hearts and Minds – Ruby Sutton.”

Alex Buchheim earned third place for Best Long Form Video Documentary for his work on the capstone documentary “Changing Hearts and Minds – Ruby Sutton.”

Kaylin Muggler earned third place for Best Long Form Video Documentary for her work on the capstone documentary “Changing Hearts and Minds – Ruby Sutton.”

Courtney Moser earned second place for Best Video Promo or PSA in the television division.

Student media advisers are Ron Johnson (Knight Vision News), Pam Ohrt (KWAR) and Suzanne Behnke (Trumpet and Knight Wire). Penni Pier, the department chair, oversees the Capstone program.

ICMA is made up of 12 Iowa colleges. The annual conference is held in conjunction with the Iowa Newspaper Association’s conference.
