Wartburg College graduates Kartika Putri and Trevis Young will be featured at the college’s first Bach’s Lunch organ series recital of the 2021-22 season Friday, Sept. 10.

The concert will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Wartburg Chapel. It will be preceded by a noon lunch and conversation with the organists in the Chapel Commons. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the installation of the college’s organ, each Bach’s Lunch this year will feature Wartburg alumni who studied organ while at the college.

Putri is the worship and music minister at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wausau, Wis. After graduating from Wartburg in 2010, she went on to earn Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees in organ and sacred music from Indiana University. As a recitalist, Putri has performed in the United States, Germany, France and Indonesia. Her passion for the role of music in bringing people together led her to writing her doctoral dissertation in the form of a church music handbook: “Come to Us, Creative Spirit: A Practical Guide for Congregational Education and Outreach through Music Ministry.”

Young is the campus minister for liturgy and music at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind. Additionally he serves as organist and accompanist for the Notre Dame Children’s Choir. Young has served as the principal accompanist for the choral department at Clemson University and director of music for Clemson United Methodist Church in Clemson, S.C. After graduating from Wartburg in 2007, he earned a master’s degree in church music from Erskine Seminary.

The program will feature “Ein’ feste Burg ist unser Gott” by Johann Pachelbel and “Pahdo” by Texu Kim, among others.

Bach’s Lunch attendees are invited to bring a lunch or order one from Wartburg’s Den-Rittersaal by the Wednesday prior to the performance by contacting Carrie Church, music department office coordinator, at carrie.church@wartburg.edu or 319-352-8300.

The series will continue Oct. 8, Nov. 12, Feb. 11, March 11 and April 8.
