 STUDY ABROAD | ALICANTE, SPAIN

Los Colores de Villajoyosa

This photo captures many memories and aspects of my time in Spain. First, of the afternoon excursion to Villajoyosa that I took the picture on. Villajoyosa, or “joyful town,” is a small fishing town on the Mediterranean Sea, named for its colorful houses that help guide sailors home. And joy is the perfect word to describe my semester in Alicante as a whole; even though I experienced a variety of mistakes and mishaps along the way, the journey was a wonderful and eye-opening one. Just like in the photo, even though it might be a cloudy day, I learned to look for the beauty in the little things. Through all three of my study abroad experiences at Wartburg, but especially my semester in Spain, what sticks out to me is the concept of humanity. Some people might have colorful houses or speak a different language or have a different attitude about life, but in the end, we’re all beautiful people in spite of, and ultimately because of, our differences.
