Twenty-seven Wartburg College students and recent graduates were recognized for their work with student media at the annual Iowa College Media Association awards Feb. 6 in Des Moines.

Those receiving honors were:

Silvia Oakland, who earned first place in News Photo and Feature Story as well as second place in Headlines and Magazine. She took home both first and third in the News Story division. Oakland earned third place in the Blog division and an honorable mention for Page 1 design. In the radio division, she earned first for Entertainment Show.

Jacob Hayworth, who earned an honorable mention in the Sports Photo category.

Annika Wall, who was named the Pat Pisarik Journalist of the Year, which is given to the outstanding journalist serving college media in the past academic year. She also earned first place in Sports Photo, News Story, Print Design and Online Video. Wall earned third place in Online Design and honorable mentions for Investigative News, Page 1, Magazine and Graphic. In the radio division, she earned second in Sports Program and third in Long-Form Package. In the TV division, she took home first in News Programming and an honorable mention in Sportscasting.

Sophie Kongable, who earned first place in the Feature Photo category and an honorable mention in Page 1 design.

Courtney Moser, who earned third place in the Investigative News category and second in Print Design.

Krystal Johnson, who earned first place for Profile writing.

Ryan Reebenacker, who earned 15 awards overall, including first place in News Programming, second in Sports Program and third in Sports Broadcast for his radio work. He also earned second place for Opinion writing, third place in Sports Story writing and an honorable mention in Headline Writing. He earned both a third-place finish and honorable mention in Online Design and first and third for Online Video. In the television division, he earned first, second and third in News Programming and second in Newscast. He also earned a third place finish in Sportscasting.

Peyton Meisner, who earned first place in Sports Feature and third in Review. He also earned third place in the television division for Sportscasting.

Liam Easley, who earned second in Review and third in Opinion writing.

Kayla Marthaler, who earned an honorable mention for Review writing.

Courtney Stucker, who earned first place in Blog writing and second in Online Design.

Nathan Stephany, who earned first place for Online Video and third for Online Design in the news media division. In the television division, he earned third place in News Programming and honorable mention for Long-Form Package. He also earned first place for News Programming and second for Newscast in the radio division.

Alexa Ganzeveld, who earned second place in the Online Design category.

Anthony Quesada Sanchez, who earned first place for his Day of the Dead graphic.

Ryley Seymour, who earned first for Entertainment Show, second for Air Personality and third for Promo in the radio division.

Robert Gomez, who earned first place for his Knightliters PSA.

Joshua Voigt, who earned second place for News Programming in the radio division.

Jonathon Mohwinkle, who earned third place in the radio division for Sports Broadcast and in the television division earned honorable mentions in Sportscasting and for his capstone project documentary “Setting the Standard.”

Taylor Webb, who earned second place for Newscast in the television division.

Robert Newell, who earned second place in the News Programming category and an honorable mention for his capstone documentary, “Setting the Standard.”

Juliana Pelaez, who earned first place for News Programming in the television division.

Sophie Reider, who earned an honorable mention in Entertainment Storytelling.

Madison Metcalf, who earned an honorable mention for her capstone short documentary, “Setting the Standard.”

Kathryn Kreis, who earned an honorable mention for her capstone short documentary, “Setting the Standard.”

Ian Coon, who earned an honorable mention for his capstone short documentary, “Setting the Standard.”

Kailee O’Brien, who earned an honorable mention for her capstone short documentary, “Setting the Standard.”

Anh Le, who earned an honorable mention for his capstone short documentary, “Setting the Standard.”

Wartburg student media took home a total of 52 awards, including 33 in the News Media division – a school record for awards. The Trumpet, the college’s student-run newspaper, also was named the News Media Organization of the Year.

Student media advisers are Ron Johnson (Cedar Valley Today), Pam Ohrt (KWAR) and Jessica Martin (Trumpet). Penni Pier, the department chair, oversees the Capstone program. ICMA is made up of 12 Iowa colleges. The annual conference is held in conjunction with the Iowa Newspaper Association’s conference.
