Three Wartburg College professors were granted tenure and promotion during the college’s Board of Regents meeting in February. Those awarded tenure are:

  • Allan Bernard, a professor of business administration. Bernard earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Business Administration from Metropolitan State University.
  • Michael Bechtel, a professor of science education. Bechtel earned a bachelor’s degree from Wartburg College, a Master of Education from the University of Wisconsin and Doctor of Education from Edgewood College.
  • Matthew Zart, a professor of chemistry. Zart earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, a Master of Science from Northwestern University and a doctorate from the University of Kansas.

In September, their rank will be promoted to associate professor.

In addition, the board also approved emeritus status for three faculty members who will be retiring this spring: Thomas Boerigter, professor of Spanish; Walter “Chip” Bouzard, professor of religion; and Bill Withers, professor of journalism and communication.
