Wartburg College President Darrel Colson appointed Greg Schmitz chair of the Wartburg President’s Advisory Council.

Schmitz is president of VGM Education, a division of VGM Group Inc. He previously held positions at Hawkeye Community College, where he was president from 2005 to 2010.

A graduate of Wartburg College with degrees in accounting and business administration, Schmitz has served on the board of directors for the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance, Allen College of Nursing, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-Iowa and the Western Home. He earned a master’s degree and Ph.D., both in education, from Iowa State University.

“Greg is an ideal person to chair the Wartburg President’s Advisory Council,” Colson said. “He is a lifelong resident of the Cedar Valley, and he and several members of his family are products of Wartburg’s distinctive liberal arts education. Greg possesses the leadership skills, vision and passion to promote and advance Wartburg College in today’s competitive climate.”
