Wartburg Television has been nominated for 10 regional awards.

The nominations are from the Upper Midwest Chapter of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The chapter is a membership organization dedicated to honoring excellence in television as well as providing professional development.

“This is an honor because our students produce great work,” said Travis Bockenstedt, WTV8 adviser. “And the fact that we are a small liberal arts college competing with some of the best journalism schools in the upper Midwest is a testament to the quality of our program and the quality of our students.”

This is the first time Wartburg Television has been nominated for any award from the academy.

“As an organization Wartburg Television entered 17 stories for consideration,” Bockenstedt said. “Out of that 17 we received 10 nominations.”

Entries for the 14 categories may be submitted from high schools or colleges and universities. They are then judged by industry professionals based on three criteria: content, creativity, and execution.  Each entry is judged by its own merit on a scale of excellence. Bockenstedt explained that the entry with the highest score is not always the winner.

“Depending on evaluations from judges, some categories may have one award, more than award or no award at all, if scores are too low,” Bockenstedt said.

The following is a list of the categories in which Wartburg Television has been nominated in the College/University Division. A complete list including fellow nominees can be found at http://midwestemmys.org/20120401/2012-college-student-television-awards-recipients/.
