The Grammy-nominated Kansas City Chorale with conductor Charles Bruffy comes to Wartburg College for an Artist Series program Thursday, Feb. 16.

The 24-member choir, known for its dedication to excellence in performing music from diverse historical periods, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Neumann Auditorium.

The Chorale’s recording of “Rachmaninoff’s Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom” was praised by the New York Times, which stated, “The chorus is everywhere remarkable.”

It also has recorded “Nativitas,” a collection of American Christmas carols; “Fern Hill,” an anthology of American Choral Music; “Songs Ring Out to the Heavens,” the choral music of Johannes Brahms; “Alleluia: An American Hymnal,” a collection of anthems, hymns and spirituals; and “Words and Music,” the music of James Mulholland.

The Kansas City Chorale and the Phoenix Chorale, also conducted by Bruffy, recorded “Passion Week” in 2007, which won the Grammy for Best Engineering and was nominated for Best Classical CD, Best Choral Performance and Best Surround Sound CD.

Bruffy has been artistic director of the chorale, now in its 29th year, since 1988, leading it to “international prominence,” according to the Kansas City Star.
