Wartburg College’s social work department was cited in the Winter 2012 issue of Adoptalk, the magazine of the North American Council on Adoptable Children, for its efforts in designing a respite-care program for foster parents.

Working with the Allison Area Foster Parent Support Group, the Wartburg College faculty and students implemented a pilot program in four counties that helped provide foster and adoptive parents with time off.

Third-year students completed background checks, interviewed applicants and wrote studies. Some students became certified respite caregivers to gain firsthand experience caring for youths in foster and adoptive homes.
