The Den-Rittersaal reopened Wednesday with different transaction procedures because of a fire Monday morning.

The Den had been closed since Monday following a small fire at 10:25 a.m. caused by a malfunction in the popcorn machine. A single sprinkler quickly doused the flames, but the water damaged the cash register, a number of appliances and inventory.

For the time being, counter transactions at the Den are cash-only. A limited “concession-style” menu is available for those purchases.

A full menu is available through the automated WebFood site, which can be accessed at Payments on WebFood are made using All-Campus Spending or credit cards. Students can use points that are part of their board plans.

Online enrollment in WebFood is recommended to take advantage of the full menu while equipment in the Den is being replaced. The dining services office (352-8303) also is providing assistance in setting up an account.

Students will have expanded lunch hours in the Mensa with a limited menu available after normal hours until 3 p.m. today.

Board plan meal transfers are not available in the Den at this time.

Updates are being provided by email as the situation changes.  An insurance estimate of the damage is pending.
