Criteria (Deadline: Feb. 1)
Ten – fifteen Wartburg
students will be selected to serve as Youth Leader Mentors (YLMs) for
the High School Leadership Institute. Current
1st-3rd year Wartburg students are encouraged to complete the application
materials and submit them to michael.gleason@wartburg.edu,, 319-352-8651.
Mentors
will receive:
• A $400 stipend
• Room and board for the week-long summer workshop
• ½ credit for completing the Youth Leadership Mentor Seminar
• A unique applied leadership opportunity
Applications
must include and will be ranked based on the following criteria:
• Resume with focus on experience working with high school students
• Letter of recommendation from an individual who can testify
to the applicant’s ability to work with adolescent youth
• Letter of recommendation from a Wartburg professor
• Student essay (1-2 pages) identifying:
- why the applicant would be a good mentor in this program
- the potential value to the applicant of participating in this program
• Application form
All
YLMs will enroll in a ½ credit training program during
the second 7 weeks of Winter Term, explicitly designed to help
them develop their full potential to serve as mentors to high
school students who will participate in the High School Leadership
Institute. Successful completion of the training program will
be a requisite for participating as a YLM, and the top candidates
will be offered positions as YLMs.
Note: The applicant’s
academic profile will also be considered as an indicator for the
probability of success.
