Application Criteria (Deadline: June 2)

Applications must include and will be ranked based on the following criteria:
• Recommendation letter from a teacher/administrator in the school system attended by the applicant
• Recommendation letter from a pastor or youth minister
• Essay including the following
• Potential community need
• Potential service project to be completed during senior year of high school that meets that need
• Potential value of the project for the student and the community
• Potential number impacted
• Potential depth of impact
• Potential sustainability of the project after the student leaves for college
• High School Transcripts (unofficial copy is fine)
• Application form - Excel Format | Adobe PDF

The program is limited to a maximum of 30 students.

Cost: $500
Because this program was started with a generous grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, the cost is only $500 for each participant. This includes:
• tuition payment for 3.5 hours of college credit (an $810 value)
• full room and board on campus for week of institute (over $150 value)
• travel and accommodations in Chicago (over $120 value).

Note: The cost to the applicant for participation in the program is $500 to meet partial expenses of the program. If this cost is an obstacle, applicants are encouraged to work with their church congregation and other community organizations that will have a stake in the outcome of the applicant’s service project. Many times these organizations will be willing to financially support a student’s attendance.
