The HSLI allows high school students in their junior year to apply for the opportunity to participate in a summer institute where they study and practice leadership skills and service as a form of community and civic engagement. Students work under the direction of faculty and staff affiliated with the Wartburg Institute for Leadership Education.
HSLI Participants will:
- Participate in team-building activities and hands-on service projects designed to expand and challenge leadership and service skills.
- Travel to Chicago to work with Holy Family Lutheran School to work with their summer youth program.
- Develop a community service project to be implemented in their home communities during their senior year of high school.
- Work with a trained college student mentor.
- Create a portfolio and submit it for review to the Institute for Leadership Education.
Successful projects & portfolios result in:
- 3.5 semester hours of transferable college credit for “LS115: Elements of Leadership."
- Eligibility for a $1,000 renewable scholarship to Wartburg College ($4,000 value)
The institute will be held 22-28, 2012 at Wartburg College.
