The
Revs. Nelson and Bonita Bock bring
to the program 20 years of experience in urban ministry and
community involvement. They arrange and supervise internships, handle
housing arrangements and other logistical/administrative aspects
of the Wartburg West and Denver Semester programs, and teach all the classes. They reside in one of Denver's most diverse inner-city
neighborhoods. The Bocks visit campus periodically to meet with
students interested in the Wartburg West program.
Nelson is a graduate of Brown University
in Providence, R.I. Bonita is a graduate of Luther College, Decorah,
Iowa. They are both 1980 graduates of Luther Northwestern Seminary
and served as co-pastors of American Lutheran Church in Baker, Mont.
until they moved to Denver in the fall of 1984. In 1987, the Bocks
founded the Urban Servant Corps, a Christian volunteer service ministry
in Denver's inner-city. Bonita served as its director until April
1998. Nelson worked in campus ministry at the Auraria Higher Education
Center in Denver from 1987 to 1992. The Bocks bring to Wartburg
West a strong commitment to urban life, Christian community, and
stewardship of resources. Because they live in the heart of Denver
with their two children, their commitments involve them in neighborhood,
church, and city issues.
