FieldTurf Gets High Marks from the Pros
FieldTurf, the surface Wartburg uses in Walston-Hoover football stadium, received high marks from professional football players when the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks recently played in the rain at the University of Washington’s Husky Stadium. The Seahawks were using the field while their new stadium was under construction.
"That grass was incredible—the best field I ever played on," said Denver wideout Rod Smith, who was quoted in Sports Illustrated "Dispatches" column. "It’s better than grass. No ruts. They ought to install that field at every stadium."
The University of Washington replaced Astro Turf with FieldTurf. It is also used at the University of Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium and at the Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball stadium.
FieldTurf consists of artificial grass fibers made from a polyethylene and polypropylene blend, treated and tufted into a unique porous surface backing. The base of graded silica sand and ground rubber provides maximum drainage, even in a heavy downpour.
