Communication Arts Center
The McElroy Communication Arts Center opened in 1992 and
houses a student-run television studio and Wartburg's FM radio
station 89.1 KWAR with stereo broadcasting equipment and a
television production suite with camera, editing, and graphics
systems. Students use both analog and digital editing equipment.
Offices for student publications also are located in the facility.
State-of-the-art
computer work stations in the journalism and graphic labs
shared with the adjacent art department include such peripherals
as film and flatbed scanners, color and black-and-white printers,
graphics tablets, digital still and video cameras, and various
types of media readers/writers. Students learn computer software
packages used by graphic artists in painting, photography,
multimedia, typography, layout, and illustration. Applications
available include recent versions of Photoshop, Freehand,
