Social Work Club - Holiday Shoppe

Holiday Shoppe Summary
Holiday Shoppe is an activity that the Social Work Club has done annually for the last 18 years. Every year the club raises funds for families on public assistance in Bremer County during Christmastime. The club receives a list of people who are on public assistance from the Department of Human Services. From September to December, the club is busy raising funds, collecting donations, recruiting volunteers, and generating publicity. The Shoppe usually takes place early to mid-December over a span of two days. During those two days families come to “shop” for presents for their kids and teenagers. Brand new toys, bicycles, clothing and toiletry items have all been bought with the money the club has raised. For most families, the gifts we give them are the only gifts they get. The club and the Holiday Shoppe committee enjoy putting smiles on over 300 kids’ faces every year.
