About
the Social Work Program
Accreditation
Established in 1945, Wartburg's social work program is the oldest undergraduate
program in the state of Iowa and one of the oldest in the Midwest. The
program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Employers
and graduate schools look for students who have graduated from an accredited
program. The BA degree in social work is equivalent to the BSW degree
as recognized by the Council of Social Work Education.
Classes
Social work is a growing and expanding major. Class sizes are small,
averaging between 15 and 25 students. Classes are structured to facilitate
group work and class discussion and provide students with hands-on practical
learning experiences in and outside of the classroom. The majority of
social work classes are held in Old Main.
