will be working with the GLBT Center of Denver that is the state
of Colorado’s only nonprofit community center for Colorado’s
gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender population. This center
offers support services and social activities. |

St. Francis Center (SFC) is
a refuge for men and women who are homeless in the metro Denver
area. Participants on this trip will be working with the organization
to provide services enabling people to fulfill their basic needs
in order to transition out of a life of homelessness. |

This service
trip will allow students to serve the people of East St. Louis
in a variety of ways. Our days will include many activities
such as cleaning up different areas of the community, helping
children in after school programs, serving dinner at soup
kitchens, and different reflection activities each night.
We will be staying at a center right in the heart of East
St. Louis, so students will be able to fully experience the
people and culture. Students on this trip will be given the
chance to examine poverty and see its causes and effects right
here in the Midwest. This trip will give students a chance
to experience life in an urban area completely different from
Waverly. We will be meeting and interacting with many different
people from single men, to families, to young children; who
are all struggling with poverty. When students return from
this trip, they will have a better understanding of the lives
of people in poverty and the overall problem of poverty in
the United States. |

This trip will work with the
Lutheran Disaster Response in the Gulf Coast. We will be helping
with the rebuilding process in the region that was destroyed
by Hurricane Katrina. The type of work we will be doing involves
but is not limited to dry walling, general clean-up, painting,
roofing, and general construction. We are seeking participants
with and without previous service trip experience. Skills are
preferred, but anyone willing to learn is welcome to serve. |

that work to alleviate poverty in the greater Charleston area.
Service activities might include preparing and serving food
at a soup kitchen, packaging and distributing food at the local
food bank, interacting with guests at a local homeless shelter
and much more. |

Wanted: Musicians,
technical staff, and anyone with a passion for music and service.
Join the band as we tour around the Midwest for the first ever
Circle of Music Tour. We plan to connect music, faith, and service
as we share our gifts and are impacted by the people around
us. We will grow as a band and discover how music is universal
as we join many diverse communities including a school, soup
kitchen, jail, homeless shelter, churches, and various other
locations. |

This service trip group will
be serving the non-profit organization Project Open Hand in
suburban Atlanta, Georgia. Project Open Hand seeks "to
provide freshly cooked meals and nutrition services to people
with symptomatic HIV/AIDS, homebound seniors and individuals
with other critical illnesses or disabilities." It will
offer service while simultaneously developing a sense of humility
through this service. Moreover, the collaboration between the
Project Open Hand employees and Wartburg students provides an
ideal situation to nurture relationships with unique individuals. |

This service trip will allow
participants to face the issue of refugee resettlement head-on
by working directly with individuals seeking the services and
care of IRC and RRISA. Students will be able to work with refugees
to foster further developing English skills through ESL classes
and share their technical skills by instructing others in the
use of computers. In addition, participants will have the opportunity
to sort through donations and stock the clothing closet. |

This Tour Week trip will provide a unique opportunity for students to explore Denver and Wartburg West while serving the homeless. Students will be working with a variety of organizations, including Metro CareRing, the largest food pantry in Denver; St. Francis Center, a daytime shelter for the homeless; Warren Village, a transitional housing and empowerment program for homeless single parents with children; and Christ's Body Ministries, a daytime hospitality center that offers Sunday evening service for the homeless. |

Service Hunters

We are looking for students with a sense of adventure to join us on a trip, dubbed the "Service Hunters". We will be working with Habitat for Humanity, but like last year’s trip the destination will remain a secret until we arrive so we can emphasize a willingness to do service regardless of the location. This service trip will be working with Habitat for Humanity on a Lakota Indian Reservation. Work will consist of sanding, painting, trim work, laying carpet and more. In addition, several small excursions have been planned for exploring the Lakota culture. |
