Staying connected is a way of life

NAME: Scott Hill

CLASS YEAR: 2006

MAJORS: Business administration and Spanish

OCCUPATION: Chief Financial Officer, CJ Drilling Inc.

WHY WARTBURG: I chose Wartburg so I could play collegiate soccer and achieve a great education. The opportunities Wartburg offered did not compare to other colleges and universities. Looking back, Wartburg was one of only a few schools where I was given the opportunity to double major, study abroad, be a member of a nationally ranked soccer team, and do it all while building lifelong friendships and graduating in four years.

HOW DID YOUR WARTBURG EXPERIENCE PREPARE YOU FOR LIFE AFTER COLLEGE: Wartburg helped me develop and refine my work ethic and people skills. The hard work ethic and kindness of the Midwest has followed me everywhere I go and allowed me to venture into professional opportunities I never imaged before coming to Wartburg. Wartburg sets a solid foundation that you can build on as you move forward in your career and life.

HOW DO YOU STAY CONNECTED TO WARTBURG: For me, staying connected to college means staying connected to those I met in college whether it is a quick phone call, a brief email, or even a trip back to the campus for a soccer alumni weekend.

WHY WAS WARTBURG WORTH IT: My experience at Wartburg was worth it because it allowed me to not only develop relationships and be involved on campus but also see the world. I completed two May Terms in Cuernavaca, Mexico, studying Spanish and spent a semester abroad in Seville, Spain. Without these unique and diverse experiences, along with my education, I would not have been able to get where I am today in my career.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR CURRENT STUDENTS: Make sure you look for and take advantage of all the opportunities that Wartburg has to offer. They may not all be obvious, as they may occur anywhere from the classroom to the athletic field to the dorm rooms. Seek out the opportunities. Find opportunities you are passionate about. Be involved .
