Eric Sommermeyer is an associate professor of accounting. His primary areas of teaching are accounting principles, taxation, auditing, and cost accounting. Eric joined the department of Business Administration, Accounting, and Economics in 2016. His professional experience includes roles in public accounting and in the private sector. Prior to joining the faculty at Wartburg College, Eric owned and operated a successful tax practice.

Eric is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Institute of Internal Auditors. He received the Smith Award for outstanding performance on the Certified Internal Auditor exam. Eric holds CPA licenses in Iowa and Wisconsin.

Eric received his Master of Business Administration degree from Upper Iowa University and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Winona State University.

In his free time, Eric enjoys playing the violin. He is also a fifth-degree black belt master in Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art. Eric and his wife, Kimberly, have two sons, Lukas and Karsten.
