Additional paragraphs from which to choose—as space permits and dependent upon the ensemble: The Warburg Choir The internationally acclaimed Wartburg Choir performs sacred music from all historical periods and styles and often features premiere works of contemporary composers. Choir members are chosen by audition and represent most academic disciplines on campus. The choir makes annual concert tours in the United States and travels abroad every three years during the college’s one-month May Term. The Washington Post described the choir as “a Mighty Fortress of Skill” in headlining a review of the Kennedy Center concert by music critic Cecelia Porter. She stated that “the Wartburg College Choir continues much of the German Lutheran tradition today—a chorus trained with rock-solid discipline and convinced that communal singing sometimes says more than ordinary speech … The choir has impeccable intonation and excellent diction.” |
The Wartburg College Wind Ensemble Two ensembles comprise the Wartburg College Concert Bands program—the Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Band. Placement in the groups is determined by a yearly audition. Both groups represent students of all class standings and nearly all-academic majors. The bands present joint and individual concerts throughout the year. The Wind Ensemble tours each spring and schedules an international tour every third year during Wartburg’s one-month May Term. In the spring of 2003, the Wind Ensemble performed at New York City’s Carnegie Hall. The group toured Europe in 2001, 2004, and 2010, and Japan in May 2007. |
The Wartburg College Castle Singers The Wartburg College Castle Singers offer an entertaining program of vocal jazz. Accompanied by a rhythm section, the group specializes in all types of vocal jazz music, from early swing to avant garde. Members of the Castle Singers are chosen by audition and represent many of the college’s more than 50 academic majors. The Castle Singers perform at events on and off campus. The group makes annual one-week concert tours in the United States and regularly travels abroad during the college’s one-month May Term. |
