The Warburg Choir

The internationally acclaimed Wartburg Choir performs sacred music from all historical periods and styles and often features premiere works of contemporary composers. Choir members are chosen by audition and represent most academic disciplines on campus. The choir makes annual concert tours in the United States and travels abroad every three years during the college’s one-month May Term. The Washington Post described the choir as “a Mighty Fortress of Skill” in headlining a review of the Kennedy Center concert by music critic Cecelia Porter. She stated that “the Wartburg College Choir continues much of the German Lutheran tradition today—a chorus trained with rock-solid discipline and convinced that communal singing sometimes says more than ordinary speech … The choir has impeccable intonation and excellent diction.”

The Wartburg College Wind Ensemble

The Wartburg College Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Craig Hancock has been celebrated around the world for its high standard of excellence. As the premiere concert band at Wartburg, the 56-member Wind Ensemble tours each spring and travels internationally every three years. The group has recently performed at New York City¹s Carnegie Hall, and toured Europe, China, and Japan during the college¹s one-month May term. Members of the ensemble represent all class standings and nearly all academic majors, and many participate in other music ensembles while also being active in student organizations all across campus.

The Wartburg College Castle Singers

The Wartburg College Castle Singers have been hailed as a model of musicianship since their inception in 1950. Under the direction of Dr. Nicki Bakko Toliver, this chamber ensemble performs a wide variety of repertoire from Byrd to The Beatles and beyond. Comprised of advanced vocalists who are dedicated to exploring challenging choral literature, the Castle Singers enjoy performing both on and off campus throughout the academic year. They strive to prepare quality choral literature, both old and new, with flexibility, stamina and dramatic flare. The Castle Singers tour the United States annually and travel overseas during the college’s May Term.
