Dr. Scott Muntefering is an assistant professor of music education at Wartburg College.  He teaches instrumental music education courses, conducting, applied trumpet, and directs the Wartburg Brass Choir and Wartburg Trumpet Choir.  Dr. Muntefering is also founder of the Wartburg Trumpet Festival, an annual event which invites high school trumpeters from Iowa to participate in a mass trumpet honor choir and learn from internationally known trumpet artists.  Past trumpet festival artists have included Allen Vizzutti, Allan Dean, and Neil Mueller.

Dr. Muntefering has received the Bachelor of Music Education degree and Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from the University of South Dakota.  He has the distinction of being the first recipient of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance from North Dakota State University.

Dr. Muntefering has presented clinics and lectures for the Iowa Music Educator’s Conference, the Collegiate Iowa NAfME Conference, the College Music Society Great Plains Conference, the International Historic Brass Society, the Feminist Theory and Music Conference and the International Women’s Brass Conference.  His research interests include teacher preparation on the undergraduate level, management and motivation in the music classroom, and historical concert band/brass band research in Iowa.  He is a regular contributor to the Iowa Band History Project sponsored by the Iowa Bandmasters Association.
