Dr. WENDELL LIEMOHN, Louisville, Tenn., completed his goal to hike all trails in Great Smoky Mountain National Park of Tennessee. He is doing research on the measurement of core stability with a prototype piece of equipment made specifically for him by Lafayette (Ind.) Instrument Co.
BEVERLY SHREVE MENK and THOMAS MENK ’57, New Brighton, Minn., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 2.
BEVERLY AXEL SYWASSINK, Normal, Ill., was honored for her many years of service locally and nationally to Kappa Delta Sorority. She received the Order of the Emerald at the June 2007 National Convention in recognition of her outstanding service and selfless devotion to the sorority. She was also the fourth Kappa Delta to receive the Distinguished Service Award for extraordinary service to the sorority. Beginning with the 2009 Convention, an award named in her honor, the Beverly Axel Sywassink Most Improved House Corporation Award, will recognize a house corporation that best meets that criteria during the biennium.

The Rev. JAMES ADIX, Marion, Iowa, retired as senior pastor at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. He was the first recipient (1956) of the Wartburg Regent’s Scholarship Award. He had been assistant professor of contextual education/director of internship at Wartburg Theological Seminary, an administrator with the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society and a Lutheran parish pastor for more than 30 years.

JOAN ANDERSON RINNER, Iowa City, Iowa, received University of Iowa staff award for Public Engagement and Outreach. She offers counseling and organizational consulting through UI Human Resources and has been instrumental in bringing the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) to eastern Iowa prisons. AVP is an international, nonprofit, educational initiative that teaches nonviolent conflict resolution to Iowa prison inmates. It is committed to reducing interpersonal violence through experiential conflict management workshops in prisons, schools and communities. Joan serves as a volunteer facilitator, counselor and program recruiter. She has helped develop new workshop material for use by AVP across the state.

STEVE BUHROW, Colo, Iowa, was appointed to the board of directors for the National Association of Secondary School Principals Board of Directors for Region 5, which includes Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia. He has completed 30 years in public education. Steve is in his 19th year as principal at Colo-Nesco High School.
FREDERICK GRUNKE, St. Cloud, Minn., was appointed by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty to serve as a judge of Seventh Judicial District Court. His chambers will be in St. Cloud.
PAUL STEEGE, Omaha, Neb., toured China for 14 days with a music group from Grace University in May. The group consisted of seven brass, three clarinets and five family members. Cities toured included Beijing, Taiyuan, Ping Yao and Xian. Paul was the principal trumpet player.

The Rev. RICHARD GENZMAN, Marysville, Ohio, was named Joint Force Headquarters State Chaplain for Ohio. He has been a chaplain for 23 years in the Ohio Army National Guard. Richard recently returned from a yearlong deployment to Baghdad, Iraq, where he served as Brigade Chaplain for the 16th Engineer Brigade, Columbus, Ohio.

His responsibilities include development and transfer of technologies for early detection of cancers to meet unmet medical needs. John has 20 years experience in the medical health industry, authored 21 peer reviewed scientific publications, and has made numerous presentations and technology transfers throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
