Vogel Library Reference Mission LIBRARY HOME > MISSION > REFERENCE MISSION Vogel Library's mission is to educate information-literate lifelong learners. We strive to make each reference encounter an educational experience that reinforces information literacy concepts by building upon prior instruction and giving further opportunities for guided practice. GOALS: To reinforce classroom learning in the context of answering individual questions and providing one-on-one guidance to students, faculty and staff in the Wartburg Community. To engage in individual assistance that enables clients to become skilled in identifying information needs and in finding, evaluating, and using that information effectively. To provide an inviting and respectful environment that fosters assistance with teaching, learning, and research. To offer reference service to the Wartburg Community through direct or remote means by providing access to a varied collection of print and electronic resources. To select the best reference tools for learning in support of the college’s academic programs. To respect the dignity of individuals and promote their intellectual and academic freedom while upholding the principles of privacy and confidentiality both at the reference desk and in individual consultations. To encourage partnerships between reference librarians and associates and the Wartburg Community which support the college’s mission of challenging and nurturing students for lives of leadership and service as a spirited expression of their faith and learning.
