Steps to Hiring a Student-Employee:
  • Review the job description of the position your department currently has open.
  • Supervisors may wish to check with the Student Employment Office (SEO) to confirm that an updated job description for the position is on file.
  • Complete the Knightlink Posting Form (DOC), noting specific hiring needs and position responsibilities/qualifications, and submit the form to the SEO.
  • The SEO will post your department’s position opening on Knightlink, Wartburg College’s online job board for students. In addition to Knightlink, the SEO may advertise the position via other media outlets, such as the Page, Trumpet, and via email.
  • Students will review the posting on Knightlink. Students interested in the position will complete a short electronic student employment application and submit it directly to the appropriate supervisor’s email inbox via Knightlink.
  • Contact applicants to inform them of your department’s hiring procedures.
  • Review applications and interview the applicants.
  • Contact applicants to inform them of your department’s decision to hire them or if the position has already been filled.  For those students that your department has decided to hire, please discuss a work schedule and remind them to complete their student employment eligibility forms, if they have not already done so.
  • Complete and submit a Student Employment Request Form to the SEO for those students your department has decided to hire. Upon the submission of the request form, the SEO will notify your department if the student has not completed their student employment eligibility forms.
  • Notify the SEO that your department has filled its position opening and your job posting can be removed from Knightlink.
