Jakob Hamilton

Connecting the classroom to the real world

NAME: Jakob Hamilton

CLASS YEAR: 2018

HOMETOWN: Algona, Iowa

MAJORS: Engineering science and mathematics

INVOLVEMENT ON CAMPUS: Service Trip leader, student manager for Neumann technical theatre staff, Ritterchor, SAFE, ultimate frisbee team, Engineering Club

WHY WARTBURG: I chose Wartburg because it felt like home. Coming from a small community, I couldn’t imagine going to a school with an enrollment three times larger than my hometown’s population. Moreover, a liberal arts engineering degree is unique, and that will set me apart from graduates from other colleges.

WHAT DID YOU NEVER IMAGINE YOU WOULD DO BEFORE COMING TO WARTBURG:  I never thought I would be able to double major, but my academic adviser helped me lay out a plan that will allow me to pursue both fields I want to pursue.

HOW IS WARTBURG PREPARING YOU FOR THE FUTURE: I have been elected to multiple leadership positions which have strengthened my future job prospects. I’ve been able to connect what I’ve learned in my engineering classes to activities outside the classroom, specifically with my job with the technical theatre staff on campus and my summer internship at the Kossuth County Engineer’s Department.
