American English
Language
Transitional American English
language is important for new students with TOEFL scores of less
than 550. Students whose TOEFL scores range from 481 to 550 are
required to take the class EI 195 as well as two or three other
classes in their first term.
EI 195
American English Language and Culture is a credit-bearing class
that is open to all students at Wartburg College. The course provides
an overview of American culture and some of its institutions and
values. Students are challenged to make sense of American culture
through an active process of data collection, group discussion,
teamwork, individual writing and speaking. The focus is an understanding
of US-Iowa-Wartburg culture using American English language and
American educational forms to do so.
