The ColsonsFamily Life

Dr. Colson was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, and grew up in Shreveport, La., where he lived throughout his childhood and adolescence.

Dr. Colson and his wife, Christy, were high school sweethearts. Christy has a degree in education and is a preschool administrator.

Dr. Colson and his wife have two children. Rachel graduated from St. Olaf and now practices law in Washington D.C. Jacob runs an environmental consulting firm in Honolulu.

Meet Dr. Colson

1977: Dr. Colson graduated from Louisiana State University where he studied English, History, Philosophy and Political Science.

1981: Dr. Colson earned his master’s degree in philosophy at Vanderbilt University. 

1987: Dr. Colson earned his Ph.D. in philosophy with a minor in theology at Vanderbilt as well.

1987: Dr. Colson returned to Louisiana where he was one of the founding faculty at the Louisiana Scholars’ College, an experimental honors college in the liberal arts and sciences established by the state of Louisiana’s Board of Regents.

1996: Dr. Colson accepted a position at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., as the Fletcher Jones Chair of Great Books.

2002: He returned to Louisiana to serve as Provost and Dean of Centenary College in his hometown of Shreveport.  

2009: Dr. Colson became the 17th President of Wartburg College beginning July 1.

Meet Christy Colson

  • Mrs. Colson graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in education.
  • In the past, she has taught in elementary schools.
  • Currently, Mrs. Colson is a pre-school administrator in Shreveport, La.
