Does My Activity
Require HARRC Oversight?
- If you are not using live
vertebrate animals or humans as research subjects, then your research
does not fall under HARRC oversight and you do not need to submit
a protocol.
- If you are using live vertebrate
animals for instructional or research purposes, then you must
submit a protocol to HARRC for your activity. Please proceed to
the research/instruction using
vertebrate animals page.
- If your activity involves human
subjects, then proceed to a).
a) If your activity is not
research, then it does not fall under HARRC oversight and
you do not need to submit a protocol. Click Here for HARRC
definition of research.
b) If your research involves evaluation
of normal education practices, then it does not fall under
HARRC oversight and you do not need to submit a protocol.
If your research does not fit this category, then proceed
to c).
c) If your research will utilize already existing data that
is either publicly available or cannot be linked, either directly
or through identifiers, to individual subjects, then it does
not fall under HARRC oversight and you do not need to submit
a protocol. If your research does not fit this description,
then proceed to d).
d) Your activity does fall under HARRC oversight and you do
need to submit a protocol. Proceed to Resources
for Researchers using Human Subjects page.
