Greg Schmitz ’83
Waterloo

Schmitz earned a combined seven letters in basketball and baseball. He was a two-time all-Iowa Conference player on the hardwood and earned the program’s best defensive player award three years. His baseball career included first team all-league honors as a utility pitcher in 1982 and a 9-7 all-time pitching record. Schmitz was named president of Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo in July after serving as vice president of administration and finance and interim president. He and his wife, Lisa Koop ’85, organize and coach several youth sports teams and serve on numerous community service club boards. They are the parents of five children, including two Wartburg students, Gregory ’06 and Lindsay ’09.
