Merritt excelled in two sports at Wartburg, earning three letters in basketball and baseball. He was a two-time all-Iowa Conference selection on the hardwood. His career numbers for legendary men’s basketball coach Lewis “Buzz” Levick rank him 10th in scoring (1,309 points).
