Elmer
Kretzschmar ’36
San Antonio, Texas
As the college’s first men’s basketball
captain, Kretzschmar lettered three times. He also
played tennis at Wartburg. He went on to a career
in the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War and
remaining on active duty until his retirement in 1968.
He later became assistant dean of the Evening College
at Texas Christian University. He and his wife, Suzanne,
live in San Antonio and are members of the Wartburg
Tower Society. They are the parents of four children
and have nine grandchildren and three great- grandchildren,
who are involved with Boy Scout activities in the
San Antonio area.
