Jensen played football and basket-ball when Wartburg became the first Iowa Conference school to capture championships in both sports for two consecutive seasons, 1958-59 and 1959-60. He was a guard in basketball and a wide receiver and running back on the football team.

He earned four letters in football and basketball and one in baseball. In basketball, he qualified for the 1,000-point club with 1,039 and was twice named to the All-Iowa Conference first team.
